#0184 "The Big Red"

A Honda "Big Red" at Henry Bond's Sugar Bush in the spring of 1988.His maple syrup bush is just north of Athens, Ontario. It shows the changes in sugar shack operations since the days of horses and his grandfather's days. The old sugar shack (80 years plus), is contrasted by the new machine ... it made me feel kind of sad to witness the passing of an age. Those three wheelers have since been banned and reconfigured to four wheels because of accidents.

I would have painted this in the Under the Basement Stairs Studio in our home on Western Avenue in Schomberg Ontario. The kids would play and watch me paint as we carried on a conversation. In 1988 it would take us an hour to walk around the Main Street Block. We knew everyone and the names of their pets too.
