#2157 "Dumoine Rocky Roots"

These tree roots sprawled over one of the car sized boulders that line the Dumoine River and the Grande Chute. The spring floods stripped all of the soil from the roots and exposed the twisted limbs that clung desperately to this huge rock. This painting is paired with #2156 "White Cedar Siblings". Both paintings were completed in heavily shaded areas on the west bank of the Dumoine River. I used some pretty bold strokes on this slippery smooth panel.

I needed to paint in the shade as the August sun and the heat were oppressive. Sunscreen was not enough. The location beside the Ledges Pool was also very convenient for frequent swims as well.
